The Bailey Mountain Cloggers, established in 1974 at Mars Hill University, are multi-award winning National Champions of American Clogging Folk Dance. The team is a diverse group of dancers that have established national and international reputation for clog dance excellence. Members of our group have been inducted into the American Clogging Hall of Fame, All American, and Junior All American Teams. We are members of CIOFF USA and have traveled internationally and across the United States, for over 40 years, sharing the traditions of Southern Appalachian Clogging. We perform a wide range of clogging from the most traditional dances with influences from Ireland, Scotland, England, the Cherokee, and Africa, to the most contemporary styles of precision clogging with hip hop and tap influences. Some of our dances include the Smooth Mountain Square Dance, Running Set Precision, and Waltz Clog- performed with jump ropes. We are accompanied by talented Old Time String Bands that use the traditional string instruments typical to our regions of the Appalachian Mountains. Our dance form is a melting pot and vibrant fusion, reflecting the rich heritage of diverse communities that came together to shape it. Being one of a few college-based performing clog teams in the nation, with art performance grants and college credit courses, the Bailey Mountain Cloggers serve as ambassador of goodwill for the college and the folk dance traditions of the Southern Mountains. The Bailey Mountain Cloggers have established a national and international reputation for American clog dance excellence.
